◎GEOPOLITICS ALPHA
PUBLIC METHODOLOGY · VERSION 1.0

Why a company appears beside a news event

Tickers are not chosen at random. Every company or instrument shown by Geopolitics Alpha must have a labeled evidence path from the reporting to the market exposure.

01 / IDENTITY BEFORE INFERENCE

How affected companies are selected

We separate what the article explicitly says from what the system infers. That distinction remains visible on every story card.

DIRECT MENTION

Identity match overrides the universe

Article titles and summaries are checked for legal company names, recognized brand names and explicit ticker formats. Public-company identity is resolved against the SEC-published company/ticker directory, with reviewed aliases for brands whose public name differs from the issuer name.

  • Direct mentions are always displayed.
  • Every direct match keeps its company name and ticker.
  • A direct mention does not predict whether the stock will rise or fall.
RELATED EXPOSURE

Inference requires a transmission path

A company not named in the reporting may appear only when a defined relationship connects it to the event—for example sector exposure, supply-chain dependency, operating geography, commodity sensitivity or infrastructure ownership.

  • Inferred symbols must be in the approved universe.
  • Category-only peers are labeled as context, not direct impact.
  • Market activity may rank a relationship; it cannot create one.

02 / PROCESS

From headline to labeled exposure

  1. 01
    Collect and normalize

Retrieve public and official headline metadata, preserve source attribution and normalize text for comparison.

  2. 02
    Deduplicate by upstream lineage

Cluster substantially similar reports and avoid treating syndicated copies as independent confirmation.

  3. 03
    Resolve company identity

Match legal names, reviewed brands and explicit tickers. Direct public companies are added before any universe filter.

  4. 04
    Map transmission paths

Apply reviewed event-to-sector and event-to-instrument rules for related exposures, benchmarks and commodities.

  5. 05
    Rank and disclose

Score relevance, freshness, source quality and corroboration, then display direct and inferred relationships separately.

03 / VERIFICATION

What the evidence labels mean

Verification describes the state of the reporting. It is not a forecast and it does not prove that an event caused a market move.

OBSERVED

One publisher or upstream source is reporting the event.

VALIDATED

An authoritative primary source reports the event.

CORROBORATED

At least two distinct upstream source lineages describe the same event.

CONVERGENT

Corroborated reporting and directly related market attention are both present.

04 / LIMITS

What an affected ticker does—and does not—mean

IT DOES MEAN

The system found a disclosed direct identity match or a defined exposure relationship worth monitoring.

IT DOES NOT MEAN

A recommendation, a price-direction forecast, proof of causation, or a claim that the list is complete. Company names, listings and relationships can change; ambiguous matches are withheld for review.
